White is the color of sophistication.
It has an ageless appeal. You can never go wrong with white themed décor.
It makes any room look spacious, clean and airy.
Whether you live in a studio apartment or a fancy bungalow, decorating in all white will add classic charm to the interior of your home.
If you’re thinking of redoing any room in the house, white should be your next choice.

How to Begin
Choose a Shade
Did you know there are six different shades of white?
  • Neutral whites
  • Chalky white
  • Creamy white
  • Cool white
  • Muted white
  •  Gray
Neutral whites have a slightly yellow hue that verges on beige. Chalky white, as the name suggests, is chalky and flat.  Cool whites are perfect if you want to go for a crisp, modern look. For more traditional themes, choose creamy and muted whites. Gray white can contrast well with darker colors and give the room is a cozy feel.

Add Texture and Dimension
Interior design is all about aesthetics. It’s important to entrance your guests with your newly redesigned white room. Instead of focusing on big furniture items, you should work on the small details.
Different textured throw pillows, cushions and rugs can really change the tone of the room. Adding a mirror to a white themed room adds depth and dimension. Play around with faux fur and silk in your decorating.
White drapes or net curtains over window sunscreens will add a soft touch to the room. If you want to keep light out, pick roman shades or roller shades for the windows. Wooden shades or blinds can both keep light out and add a pop of color to the room.

Choose a Statement Furniture Piece
If you really want your white themed décor to stand out, go for a statement furniture piece. It doesn’t need to be white; you can experiment with different colors. Remember, it shouldn’t be too bold otherwise the elegance of white will be lost.
Some ideas for statement furniture pieces that won’t take away from the white theme are:
  • Wooden coffee table
  • Gilded armchairs
  • Wooden fireplace
  • Colorful floor lamp
  • Wooden bookshelf

Plan for Damage
Once you’ve invested in your white themed décor, you don’t want it all to go to waste soon. You want to make sure the furniture, carpet, rugs and other decoration pieces last some years. To protect everything from sun damage and glare, remember to install a sunscreen on the windows of your room. It will ensure longevity of your décor and keep the inside cool and refreshing.

Summary:

Decorating in white never goes out of style. White themed décor is classy and graceful. You can choose from different shades of white in your decorating, add texture with cushions, pillows and decoration pieces and make a statement with a different colored furniture piece.
