Windows really add character to a home. Changing up the theme of your windows can drastically change the entire look of your house. You can start small by getting a new pair of curtains.

Material
Are those heavy, winter curtains wearing you down? Exchange them for light, breezy fabrics. Opt for mesh or net curtains to allow sunlight to stream in and light up the rooms. If you’re worried about privacy, you can layer the fabrics to make sure they’re not see-through. Go for sheer curtains on the outside and blockout curtains behind them.

Design
Pick a design that evokes summer. Usually, floral prints are most people’s go-to option when it comes to this. However, if you’re not a print person you can opt for simply changing the color of your curtains. Choose light shades such as pastel colors, cool blues or light greens. Buy new furniture to match your new curtains and give your room a whole new personality.

Sun screens
You’ve taken care of the aesthetics, but what about the summer heat? How about installing a good sunscreen? Adding a sunscreen to your windows reduces heat before it reaches the interior of your house. Not only does a good sunscreen keep your house safe from the harmful UV rays of the sun, but it also keeps out pesky insects and dust particles during the whole day and night.
 
Window Seats
What better way to bask in the summer sun (after you’ve installed your sunscreen) than adding a window seat? Window seats are the perfect, cozy additions to any living or reading room. Not only are they private nooks for reading or napping, but they also add considerable value to a house. Incorporating a window seat can give a small space the illusion of grandeur, too.

Cleaning Windows
Everyone gets lazy in the winters. It’s not easy to go out in freezing temperatures and scrub out the exterior of your house. But once it’s time for a summer makeover, you need to make sure the surface of your windows is spotless.
 
Use a thick piece of cloth and window cleaning solution mixed with soapy water to clean window surfaces. Clean in a circular pattern and make sure not to leave any marks. Let the window dry properly once cleaning is finished to avoid mold from forming in the cracks or lining.

Window Repairs
​Make sure the windows are functional. Check for broken or loose panes and rusty locks. Replace any damaged or broken window screens. Remember to check for leaks and don’t put off fixing any as soon as you catch them.
